While Patriots and Rams fans gear up for Super Bowl LIII, wireless providers are hard at work making sure fans stay connected during the big game. Let’s take a look at the 5G news this week.
Wireless providers prepared for the Super Bowl by installing hundreds of new antennas and small cells in and around Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz stadium, many of which will remain after game day for use with 5G deployment.
The FCC announced that the next 5G-focused spectrum auction will begin on March 14th. The auction covers licenses in the 24 GHz band.
Verizon expects 5G 3GPP chipsets to be available for smartphones in the first half of 2019, while more 5G home equipment become available in the second half of the year.
C Spire and Phazr launched 5G service in a Mississippi suburb near Gulfport that offers latency as low as 8 milliseconds.
