This Week in 5G: New Networks, Devices and Use Cases Take Center Stage .
Here’s the latest 5G news from around the world:
CTIA released our Annual Survey results this week. Industry data clearly demonstrated that 5G deployment is well underway, with increases in investment and cell sites reported.
GCI announced plans to bring 5G wireless service to Anchorage, Alaska. The provider is partnering with Ericsson to deploy cell sites across the city, and expects to turn on the network in 2020.
Verizon announced another 5G-enabled device this week. LG’s V50 ThinQ is launching today on the network, joining the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and Moto Z3 and Z4 as the provider’s first 5G devices.
Ericsson, Telefónica, and IMDEA Networks showed off new AI and analytics use cases for 5G at this week’s European Conference on Networks and Communications. Demonstrations included robots that could be operated remotely from the edge of the network as well as real-time image recognition and video analytics applications.
U.K. wireless provider EE launched 5G, with early reviews coming in about the power of these initial deployments.
