This Week in 5G: 5G kicks off 2019 .
5G must have a fitness-related resolution, because the next generation of wireless is hitting the ground running in the New Year. There are lots of developments to discuss as we begin 2019, so let’s get started!
2019 will be the year of 5G. The New York Times this week distilled what to expect from 5G in 2019 and all its benefits, like high-quality virtual reality and super-fast speeds.
D-Link released a new 5G Enhanced Gateway router that creates high-speed wireless networks in users’ homes. The router can achieve speeds up to 40 times faster than wired broadband.
AT&T confirmed that some of its Android devices will begin to show a “5G E” indicator when they connect to a tower with 5G Evolution service. 5G Evolution—which offers faster speeds thanks to carrier aggregation and other technologies–will be available in more than 400 markets by the end of the year.
T-Mobile released a study on consumer attitudes toward 5G. The majority of consumers surveyed said they were familiar with 5G and that this next-generation of wireless will bring faster wireless speeds. In fact, the study found that more people aware of 5G than of the internet of things, blockchain, or machine learning.
