This Week in 5G: 5G Goes to the Hill .
5G was a media darling this week, with lots of discussion on the Hill about the potential of 5G and the necessity of freeing up mid-band spectrum for the next generation of wireless. Let’s dive in to this week’s highlights!
CTIA released a report on the economic impact of releasing mid-band spectrum for use with 5G networks.
Congress held a hearing this week on the race to 5G, featuring testimony from CTIA, the Competitive Carriers Association, the Intelligent Transportation Society of America, the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission and Urbanova. In advance of the hearing, Chairman Wicker wrote an op-ed about the potential benefits of 5G for Mississippians.
Verizon conducted a 5G edge compute test that revealed that latency was cut in half compared to running the information through a centralized data center.
Ericsson opened their largest training center yet in the United States on Monday specifically to focus on training crews to roll out 5G cell sites. A lack of trained installation technicians could impact how quickly 5G infrastructure can be deployed.
That’s all for this week. See you next time!
