The Wireless Industry Responds to Hurricane Delta

Share

Continuing a very active Hurricane season in 2020, Hurricane Delta made landfall along the U.S. gulf coast as Category 2 (winds up to 100 mph). Delta was the fourth named storm of 2020 to strike Louisiana, and struck the same area of southwestern Louisiana as Category 4 Hurricane Laura just a month earlier. Public officials sent more than 90 Wireless Emergency Alerts with critical, life-saving information about tornadoes, flooding and evacuation orders to wireless consumers in Delta’s path.

Even as residents are still recovering from Hurricane Laura, 89% of cell sites remained operational throughout Louisiana and improved to 94% less than two days after Hurricane Delta passed. Like Laura, Delta also had a significant impact on power and back haul and damaged many cell sites. Wireless providers responded swiftly to restore damaged cell sites and continue refueling operations to keep generators running until commercial power is restored to the affected sites.

The wireless industry is continuing to support response and recovery efforts in Louisiana with ongoing text-to-donate campaigns to provide relief and food. You can text the word DELTA to 90999 to make a $10 donation to the the Red Cross to support their efforts to help people recover from this disaster.
