Growing Up Wireless: Helping Parents Keep Their Kids Safe Online .
As we deploy the next generation of wireless, 5G, it’s quite the trip down memory lane to think back on a time before 4G, smartphones and the app economy. For kids growing up in today’s increasingly-connected world, this technology is all they know. With the swipe of a finger or a click of a button, today’s tech-savvy generation can enter a whole new world of information sharing, games and applications. It’s important that they are taught how to do so safely and responsibly.
Increased connectivity opens the door for parents to have important conversations about responsible use of Internet-connected devices from an early age. Kids are eager to use mobile devices to discover and learn new information, communicate with family and friends, play games and more. Most parents say they have a variety of Internet-connected devices at home that their children use regularly, including tablets, smartphones, and IoT toys.
Together with parents, CTIA and its members want kids to be responsible wireless consumers when they pick up a cellphone, tablet or other mobile device. We recently relaunched our Growing Wireless webpage, which provides industry-backed tools and resources for parents of connected kids.
Through the resources available on Growing Wireless, parents can learn to empower their kids’ technology use for things like education, communication and creativity without compromising their child’s safety or their family’s wireless use rules.
Some of the features parents will find on the new Growing Wireless site include:
- Online Safety Resources: CTIA and its member companies offer parents a number of tools, features, and information to help them choose and manage their kids’ wireless devices and services.
- Tips for Parents: CTIA compiled a list of fact sheets and guides from technology companies and reputable partners that will help parents keep kids safe when they’re using a wireless device or app.
- Policies & Programs: The wireless industry is committed to supporting the policy efforts that will help keep kids safe on mobile devices.
Children today are growing up with wireless at home, at school and virtually everywhere in the world around them. The wireless industry will continue to support the online child safety efforts, like Growing Wireless, that help parents raise today’s connected kids to become tomorrow’s innovators.
