CTIA Statement on FCC Action on Wireless Emergency Alerts

WASHINGTON Please attribute the following to CTIA® Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Scott Bergmann:

“CTIA is proud of the highly-successful, voluntary Wireless Emergency Alert service, which has benefited American consumers on countless occasions ranging from rescuing abducted children to protecting the lives of those exposed to severe weather and incidents. While we support efforts to enhance this important voluntary system, we are concerned that the FCC’s technically unrealistic timeline adopted today may impede the delivery of emergency alerts. We are committed as an industry to support consumer safety with this voluntary program, and urge the FCC to work with all stakeholders to ensure enhanced capabilities reach consumers in a manner that safeguards existing alert capabilities and wireless networks.”

CTIA® ( represents the U.S. wireless communications industry and the companies throughout the mobile ecosystem that enable Americans to lead a 21st century connected life.
