About the Playbook
We see becoming a smart city as an achievable, accessible, desirable goal for communities of all sizes and states of readiness.
The CTIA Smart Cities Working Group members, representing over 40 innovative companies, collaborated to create an industry Smart Cities Playbook. Targeting local officials and municipal decision makers, the Playbook explores how wireless technology can increase efficiencies, create safer communities, and increase the quality of life for citizens.
The CTIA Smart Cities Working Group members teamed up with innovative city leaders to gather examples of real-life smart cities deployments that wireless technology is enabling now. Topics and use cases include:
Smart Public Services
- Smart public safety
- Smart public infrastructure
- Smart public transit
Smart Transportation
- Vehicle-to-everything communications
- Connected vehicles
- Traffic management
Smart Utilities
- Grid management and resiliency
- Smart energy and sustainability
Each topic area concludes with an application exercise before exploring how communities can start their own smart cities journey. Here, the Playbook presents local decision makers with strategy considerations, foundational planning ideas, and tips for navigating the procurement process and finding RFP success.
Across locations, technology types, and goals, smart cities projects share many commonalities. All projects can benefit from guidance on best practices, technology solutions, forging vendor relationships and more. The Smart Cities Playbook provides checklists and recommendations for each type of project discussed to help put solutions to work in communities as they become safer, and smarter.
