CTIA and its members oversee certification programs, test labs and test plans.
Battery Certification Program
CTIA manages a program to permit operators and their suppliers to validate a Lithium Ion battery’s compliance with the IEEE Standard for Rechargeable Batteries for Cellular Telephones (IEEE Std 1725™ – 2011) and the IEEE Standard for Rechargeable Batteries for Multi-Cell Mobile Computing Devices (IEEE Std 1625™ – 2008).
Battery Life Certification Program
CTIA also manages a Battery Life Certification Program which provides an estimate of the expected battery life of a smartphone.
Bluetooth® Compatibility Certification Program
In partnership with the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, CTIA manages a program to improve the interoperability between cellphones and Bluetooth devices, including hands-free systems in cars and headsets.
Device Hardware Reliability Certification Program
CTIA manages a program to evaluate the hardware reliability of a smartphone. The scope of testing currently includes physical shock, water ingress and connector reliability.
IoT Cybersecurity Certification Program
CTIA manages a cybersecurity certification program for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, establishing an industry baseline for device security on wireless networks. The CTIA IoT Cybersecurity Certification Test Plan supports a variety of use cases and levels of device sophistication.
LTE/CDMA Device Certification Program

PTCRB Certification Program
CTIA administers the PTCRB certification program for GSM, UMTS and LTE wireless devices.
Reverse Logistics and Service Quality Program
The CTIA Wireless Device Grading Scales Criteria and Definitions document defines the industry standard for grading aftermarket wireless devices, facilitating efficient product lifecycle management across the wireless industry.
There are numerous CTIA Authorized Test Labs in North America, Europe and Asia. You can search to find an authorized testing facility by laboratory or testing capability.
Through working groups comprised of representatives from CTIA member companies, CTIA develops and manages numerous test plans used during the product testing and certification process.
