It's been a huge year for mobile enterprise applications, as carriers and their enterprise prospects look to enhance their workforce mobility, flexibility and connectivity by bringing the capabilities of an office desk directly to the mobile device. The Day One keynote featured Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft Corporation, and focused on Microsoft's new Mobile Device Manager, as well as other trends in both the enterprise and consumer space. CTIA President and CEO Steve Largent also announced the results of the association's semi-annual survey. As expected, the industry again had a record setting 6 months. June 2007 subscribership reached more than 243 million, and text messaging numbers continued to sky-rocket, with almost a billion daily text messages in June.

Day One also featured a variety of CTIA Educational Sessions. These comprehensive, in-depth sessions were broken into four different "tracks" or categories—Mobile Enterprise, Mobile Entertainment, Mobile Data 2.0, and Policy Outlook—and addressed the most important issues facing the wireless industry.

Among the numerous sessions was the panel discussion: Enterprise Applications: What Can the IT Managers Implement Today to Mobilize the Enterprise Workforce? As carriers are continuing to respond to demands of the Enterprise marketplace and partnering with major application providers, this panel gathered together wireless network providers and application providers to discuss the most important issues for successful IT implementation and adoption.

A recap of this session, in addition to the Wireless Productivity Tools, Razing the Garden Wall, and Wireless Industry Policy Hot Topics sessions from Day One, will be available in a podcast. Also, don't forget to vote for your "Top Ten Wireless Moments," and be sure to check out the daily news webcast and interactive blog to get caught up to speed on all the buzz from Day One.
