
WASHINGTON, D.C., October 9, 1997 -- The wireless telecommunications industry's annual "Gee Whiz" gathering, CTIA's annual Wireless APPS `97 Convention and Exhibition Product Showcase will feature an exhibition hall teaming with the technological suppliers, content providers and equipment manufacturers who are leading the way into the next generation of wireless solutions.
CTIA's Wireless APPS will be held October 27-29 in Seattle, one of the most important high-tech centers in the world. CTIA President and CEO Thomas E. Wheeler, said, "The U.S. wireless industry is growing phenomenally, with more than 50 million wireless phone subscribers already. But companies on the cutting-edge are already looking ahead, to the next generation of wireless consumer applications and products. These are the companies who are exhibiting at APPS."

Already, 56 organizations have reserved more than 13,000 square feet of exhibition space for APPS `97. This compares to 7,000 square feet of exhibition space at APPS `96, making this year's exhibition the largest in the history of wireless applications.

Amik, Inc. presents the first production in its CallPrint line, a complete package for the rental of portable cellular phones. This new system provides a full cellular telephone rental business in a single package taking little more than a foot of counter top. The CallPrintT Rental System is based on the unique CallPrint Recorder that slides onto a Motorola MicroTACT phone between the phone and its battery, and will log and store up to 1000 call transactions in real-time. The call data can be downloaded via an infrared optical port to the central rental station, an IBM point-of-sale computer that includes keyboard, user and customer displays, credit cards reader, printer and the Amik cellular rental software package. Argus Technologies introduces the RSM 48/10 -- one of the world's most compact, all-in-one rectifier systems. The RSM 48/10 accommodates a supervisory module, distribution module and five power modules in just three rack units of space. Cell-Loc Inc. provides a sneak preview of Cellocate that addresses the FCC E9-1-1 Cellular/PCS location and Determination mandate. The Cellocate hardware component resides at the cellular/PCS base station and the proprietary Super-Resolution software is housed inside the Cellocate box. Motorola's Worldwide Data Solutions Division of the Land Mobile Products Sector, announces a plan to incorporate public data networks into its wireless data portfolio with a communications offering called VersiTAC Integrated Wireless Data Solution. Leveraging its 25-year history as a provider of private wireless data networks, the introduction of VersiTAC extends Motorola's capability to offer customers total solutions on public or integrated (private/public) data networks.
