CTIA – The Wireless Association® Supports Bill to End IRS Mandates for Cell Phone Call Log-Sheets

February 13, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC – CTIA - The Wireless Association® President and CEO Steve Largent issued the following statement today in response to the introduction of the “MOBILE Cell Phone Act (Modernize Our Bookkeeping In the Law for Employee’s Cell Phone Act),” by U.S. Representatives Sam Johnson (R-TX) and Earl Pomeroy (D-ND):

“I applaud Representatives Johnson and Pomeroy for their desire to update the tax treatment of wireless devices.  They recognize, as we do, that the Internal Revenue Code's treatment of wireless devices is hopelessly outdated and fails to reflect the integration of wireless technology into American businesses.

“Thanks to wireless technology, the days of the desk-bound employee are long gone.  Today’s worker carries ‘the office’ in the palm of his or her hand and has the freedom to conduct business on the go.  The tax code should be written and enforced in a way that enables, rather than discourages, businesses to embrace the benefits of wireless technology.

“We look forward to continue working with Members of Congress to see that this important legislation becomes law this year.”
