CTIA – The Wireless Association® Applauds Progress on Broadband Mapping Legislation
October 30, 2007
WASHINGTON, DC – CTIA - The Wireless Association® President and CEO Steve Largent issued the following statement today in response to the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce markup of H.R. 3919, the “Broadband Census of America Act of 2007:”
“I want to commend Subcommittee Chairman Ed Markey and Committee Chairman John Dingell for their leadership on the issue of how best to determine the state of broadband deployment in America. The wireless industry agrees that a U.S.-based broadband census and inventory map can be a timely and useful tool to aid policymakers in the effort to provide equal access to broadband services to all Americans, regardless of economic status or location.
“Knowing where broadband is and is not available in the U.S. is a critical part of making broadband services available to all citizens. Wireless is a key component in the effort to make ubiquitous broadband coverage a reality, and we appreciate that the Committee has crafted a meaningful broadband census that can be achieved by the wireless community in a minimally burdensome manner.”
