CTIA – The Wireless Association® Applauds House Hearing on Internet Tax Moratorium; Calls for Bill’s Passage
February 22, 2007
WASHINGTON, DC – CTIA-The Wireless Association® President and CEO Steve Largent issued the following statement today following the House Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law’s hearing on the Internet Tax Freedom Act of 2007:
“First of all, I’d like to thank and commend Chairwoman Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA-39) and Ranking Member Rep. Chris Cannon (R-UT-3) for holding a hearing on a bill that has significant economic and social ramifications for American consumers everywhere. According to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC), 59% of all new high speed lines in the first half of 2006 were wireless. This statistic suggests that wireless broadband is growing faster than cable and DSL combined and is now a critical part of our nation’s strategy to close the digital divide.
“Having the Internet in the palm of your hand and taking it wherever you go has so many advantages for Americans of all walks of life. That’s why we need to keep Internet access affordable, and the best way to do that is to make permanent the moratorium on Internet taxation. I encourage Congress to enact the Eshoo-Goodlatte bill as soon as possible.”
