Average Wireless Customer Bill and Use (1987 – 2008)
The following chart illustrates how the average local monthly bill per subscriber has decreased in the past 21 years, from 1987 to June 30, 2008.

Talk is Cheaper

  • During the last 21 years, wireless subscribers’ average local monthly bill has decreased by nearly 50%.
  • What started as a nearly $100 monthly bill in 1987 averaged just $48.54 in June 2008.
  • In 1995 consumers used an average of 119 minutes per month and paid about $51. Today, consumers use an average of 769 minutes each month and pay around $48.54. They’re getting more time to talk at the same time they are paying less for service.
  • Beyond consumers’ average 769 voice minutes a month, they’re sending and receiving text and photo messages, browsing the web, playing games and listing to music -- all for that low monthly rate.
