Get Wise About Wireless

Get Wise About Wireless is a free, educational program developed especially for middle school students who are growing up in “the wireless generation.” Created in partnership between The Wireless Foundation and the Weekly Reader Corporation Consumer & Custom Publishing, this program aims to educate students about cell phone use and the responsible behaviors associated with using cell phones.

Get Wise About Wireless is designed to encourage educators and families to help their students practice proper cell phone etiquette and safety behaviors. It also seeks to serve as a catalyst for discussions at home among family members about using wireless technology in their day-to-day lives.

Cyberbullying is a growing problem in American schools.  The term “cyberbully” refers to young people who use cell phones and other digital devices to harass other students. The bullies’ tools are text and photos that embarrass and unnerve kids.

Get Wise About Wireless offers program materials, including educational kits for schools containing a teacher’s guide, a family take-home pamphlet, a classroom poster and a student mini-magazine, to equip parents and educators with informative tips and tools on how they can help their students stay safe and defeat digital bullies.
