Location Based Services Action Team
Description of the Action Team
Whereas location and user presence information is expected to greatly enhance the functionality of wireless Internet applications and to significantly increase the value of the experience to the user, the WIC Leadership Council agrees on the need to investigate the opportunities and challenges inherent in leveraging that data. While it is recognized that such data must be closely protected, a common interface and rules of access to the appropriate aspects of this data will be necessary to enhance security and to build compelling applications.
While other organizations and efforts exist to federate technology standards and
influence government E911 policy, this Action Team is focused on resolving the
implementation and business case issues associated with location based services adoption.
