Freedom and Accessibility for All

Accessibility is an issue that affects aging and disabled communities. Wireless technology can enable people to take control of their lives, especially in these communities. This podcast illustrates how wireless technology is improving people’s lives and what the wireless industry and the organization Wireless Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (RERC) is presenting doing to help.

Please also check out the education session presented by Wireless RERC at the Wireless Accessibility Forum: Wireless for All? Yes We Can! on April 2 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in Room N261.

Businesses Say Wireless is Key to Prosperity

In conjunction with Harris Interactive®, we conducted a survey with 700 small, medium and large American businesses on how the wireless industry impacts their businesses.

45% of the business decision makers said that wireless applications were an important or absolutely essential to being competitive.  When we asked how much they thought wireless application deployment would increase productivity or cost reduction, the companies said they expected a 15% improvement in their bottom-line.

I know I don't have to tell you that a 15% improvement in a company's bottom-line is astounding, but when it's coupled with today's economic situation...well, it's impressive.

When you combine our Semi-Annual Survey with this one, it’s clear that the wireless industry has greatly changed (and improved) the way we work, play and live.

If you would like to learn more take a listen to a podcast we did with Harris Interactive Vice-President Joe Porus.

Semi-Annual Wireless Industry Survey Results: Wireless Continues to Grow

To kick off the first day at International CTIA WIRELESS 2009®, we released our Semi-Annual Wireless Industry Survey.

While you can read the specifics about the survey, I thought I’d highlight a few interesting statistics which clearly demonstrate the wireless industry’s growth, despite these tough economic times.

  • Wireless data service revenues in 2008 increased 39% more than 2007 to $32 billion.
  • There are more than 270 million wireless subscribers.
  • 1 trillion text messages were sent in 2008, meaning 3.5 billion were sent every day.
  • 2.2 trillion minutes were used in 2008, an increase of 100 billion minutes from 2007.
  • Finally, we had record-breaking six-month wireless service revenue of more than $75 billion with annual service revenues reaching $148 billion by year-end 2008.

I’m looking forward to visiting our exhibitors and learning more about the new products and services they offer. It’s an exciting time to be involved in the wireless industry!
