Celebrate National Cell Phone Recycling Week: Donate Your Used Devices

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, along with cell phone manufacturers, service providers and retailers have declared April 6th-April 12th to be “National Cell Phone Recycling Week.”

If you attended International CTIA WIRELESS 2009®, you know we focused on green. We had recycling containers throughout the Convention Center encouraging attendees to drop off their used cell phones and accessories.  In addition, I hope you were able to watch the Honorable Al Gore on Friday when he spoke about the infinite possibilities wireless provides from healthcare to helping to solve the climate crisis.  He reminded all of us that we can be a part of the environmental solution.

We encourage you to take a few minutes to make a social and environmental difference by donating and recycling your cell phone.

While lots of companies and organizations are accepting your donation, CTIA–The Wireless Foundation® supports Call To Protect®, a national philanthropic program aimed at combating domestic violence. Donated phones are refurbished and sold, or recycled. 100% of the net proceeds from the refurbished phones are used to make grants to national organizations working to end family violence.

Yes you are right, whenever we a buy a new mobile we'll forget about the old mobile and we simply keep our old one in drawer. There are many companies in the market offering mobile <a href="http://www.fonebank.com/mobile_phones_to_sell_for_...; title="phone recycling">phone recycling</a>. We can even get quick cash for <a href="http://digg.com/users/rainerpeets"; title="recycling">recycling</a> our old mobiles.

I don't recycle my cell phones because there's so much information in them, personal addresses and numbers. I erase the contacts only to find all the received info. is still there. Can all of it be removed, permanently?

Great question Mary! To remove the personal information before you donate your cell phone, please visit: http://www.recellular.com/recycling/data_eraser/ for free step-by-step instructions on how to erase your cell phone data.

I think this is one of the best ways to use your old cell phones which become a scrap after some time. Recycling your cell phone is a beneficial campaign, aims to increase the public’s awareness of cell phone recycling and donation opportunities, with the ultimate goal of increasing the nation’s cell phone recycling rate from the current level. Many recycling programs are working for good cause in society, donating cell phones to raise funds for charitable organizations will add in numbers too. But MARRY Z get great attention on that point about old data, so before recycling cell phone you should check it out and save your data or remove it from the old one.
