Wave: Going back to the new AT&T and all the services that you’re offering, what do you think is a key value proposition for the consumer?

Mr. Whitacre: I know we just offered the Unity plan which says if you have AT&T wireless and wireline you can call 100 million numbers of your fellow AT&T customers free. It’s too early for me to know whether that value proposition
is what we think it will be. The real true value proposition is broadband, wireless, voice, and TV all in one bundle at a reasonable price that satisfies the consumer. I think that’s the value proposition for both the customers and AT&T.

Wave: Can you imagine what’s next or what possibilities you think could exist in terms of the kinds of services that you could provide in the future?

Mr. Whitacre: I don’t know — I’m not a very good visionary, but I see the iPhone is popping out. It has some interesting possibilities. Now you can take your cell phone and a web cam and wirelessly monitor who is coming in and out of your house, order from the grocery store wirelessly, and your refrigerator keeps up with it. You can go on and on. Which ones of those will catch on? I don’t know. Anything is a guess, but there are a lot of possibilities to pick from. There will be a lot of options. You have to take some risks. Some work. Some don’t. If it doesn’t work, you back up and try something else.

Wave: You talked about return on investment and maybe advertising, looking at some advertising possibilities on phones. Is that a stream worth exploring to see how people react to that?

Mr. Whitacre: Absolutely. You know I will. Some of us want to find out the NBA scores wirelessly. Some of us want to do a little bit more than that, advertising, content. All that is pretty exciting I think. iTunes, games, video, you name it. I think this thing will give you a haircut someday. (laughing) Just push haircut
and turn the thing loose and it just —

Wave: And you get your hair cut like the performer whose song you just downloaded!

Mr. Whitacre: Right. (Laughter.) Seriously, the possibilities are unlimited. I don’t know what will catch on, and I don’t think anyone else does either. Is the camera a big deal on the cell phone?

Whitacre wants AT&T to be the only company customers need for their communication and entertainment needs.
