Wireless Wave: We’ve touched on a lot here. Is there anything else you’d like to say to Wave readers?
Comissioner Chong: As a regulator, I hear from consumers directly when they’re not delighted. Some of the regulatory and legislative actions in the past affecting the wireless industry were because of the failure to place customer satisfaction at the very top of corporate priorities. So, I challenge wire-less carriers to put delighting the customer as your very first priority. Putting even more focus on customer satisfaction will diminish the legislative and regulatory pressures on them over time.
Wireless Wave: I would be remiss if I didn't ask you about your interest in Star Trek and how you’ve said that helped instill your interest in wireless communication.
Comissioner Chong: (LAUGHING). I watched a lot of “Star Trek” episodes as a kid, because my older brother was a fan. Captain Kirk’s comm badge was the first thing I thought of when I read about cell phones. It piqued my interest enough to where I moved to Washington, D.C. to be an FCC lawyer so that I could work in this new area of wireless phones. I realized how much it would transform how people com-municated.
Wireless Wave: One thing I guess we can say about Captain Kirk is that he sure had great coverage!
Comissioner Chong: Oh yes, he had coverage of the whole galaxy. That is what you call amazing roaming!
