External and State Affairs Department

The External and State Affairs Department is CTIA’s liaison with state legislatures, regulatory entities and advocacy organizations on wireless communications issues. The External and State Affairs Department’s mission is to represent the wireless industry in working with these groups and other identified organizations to develop policies that promote the wireless industry’s vision for the future.

The External and State Affairs Department works with state regulatory agencies and legislatures on wireless-related issues such as the consumer-carrier relationship, taxation, and tower siting. With the ubiquity of wireless services, the Department identifies potential coalition partners, including groups with an avid interest in wireless issues. By conducting outreach to key constituencies, such as seniors, the disabled and tribal communities, the Department seeks to create a greater level of awareness and understanding of wireless industry initiatives and policies.

As wireless communications enhance the lives of consumers, the External and State Affairs Department explores all of the advocacy avenues for wireless policy by creating stronger relationships with organizations and policymaker groups with wireless interests.
