Regulatory Affairs Department

The CTIA Regulatory Affairs Department is the lead representative of the wireless industry before the Federal Communications Commission and other federal government organizations seeking to regulate the wireless industry. The Department works in conjunction with CTIA member carriers, manufacturers, and vendors to advocate on behalf of the industry across a wide range of topics before federal agencies.

The Regulatory Affairs Department works to have policies enacted that strengthen the industry and promote its continued growth and technological advancement in providing consumers with innovative products and services. At the same time, the Department strives to keep negative regulatory impacts to a minimum and to help foster a regulatory climate that encourages the vast capabilities of wireless to allow Americans to communicate and connect where they want, how they want, when they want.

The Regulatory Affairs Department helps develop industry positions and then advocates for them before the FCC and the Executive Branch, including the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Commerce.

In practical terms the Regulatory Affairs Department drafts and files comments on industry positions with the FCC and other federal government entities, leads working groups of subject matter experts to explore specific regulatory issues, serves as a central point to resolve industry regulatory conflicts, and regularly conducts educational sessions for member companies. The Department also distributes information to the regulatory staff of member companies regarding ongoing proceedings, regulatory and legal developments, and other pertinent news, and serves as a vital point of contact on regulatory issues for members that do not have a Washington presence.
